Search for the Higgs Boson in theH→WW(*)→l+νl−ν¯Decay Channel inppCollisions ats=7  TeVwith the ATLAS Detector

A search for the Higgs boson has been performed in the H -> WW(*()) -> l+vl-(v) over bar channel (l = e/mu) with an integrated luminosity of 2.05 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events over the expected background is observed and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 110 GeV< m(H) < 300 GeV. The observations exclude the presence of a standard model Higgs boson with a mass 145 < m(H) < 206 GeV at 95% confidence level.

Search for new phenomena in the WW→lνl′ν′ final state in pp collisions at s=7TeV with the ATLAS detector

This Letter reports a search for a heavy particle that decays to WW using events produced in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The data were recorded in 2011 by the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1). WW -> lvl'v' (l,l' = e or mu) final states are considered and the distribution of the transverse mass of the W W candidates is found to be consistent with Standard Model expectations. Upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio into W boson pairs are set for Randall-Sundrum and bulk Randall-Sundrum gravitons, which result in observed 95% CL lower limits on the masses of the two particles of 1.23 TeV and 0.84 TeV, respectively.

Measurement of the W→τντ cross section in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

The cross section for the production of W bosons with subsequent decay W to tau nu is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample that was recorded in 2010 at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb^-1. The cross section is measured in a region of high detector acceptance and then extrapolated to the full phase space. The product of the total W production cross section and the W to tau nu branching ratio is measured to be 11.1 +/- 0.3 (stat) +/- 1.7 (syst) +/- 0.4 (lumi) nb.

Performance of jet substructure techniques for large-$R$ jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector

This paper presents the application of a variety of techniques to study jet substructure. The performance of various modified jet algorithms, or jet grooming techniques, for several jet types and event topologies is investigated for jets with transverse momentum larger than 300 GeV. Properties of jets subjected to the mass-drop filtering, trimming, and pruning algorithms are found to have a reduced sensitivity to multiple proton-proton interactions, are more stable at high luminosity and improve the physics potential of searches for heavy boosted objects. Studies of the expected discrimination power of jet mass and jet substructure observables in searches for new physics are also presented.…

The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger: PreProcessor implementation and performance

The PreProcessor system of the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger (L1Calo) receives about 7200 analogue signals from the electromagnetic and hadronic components of the calorimetric detector system. Lateral division results in cells which are pre-summed to so-called Trigger Towers of size 0.1 × 0.1 along azimuth (phi) and pseudorapidity (η). The received calorimeter signals represent deposits of transverse energy. Installation and commissioning of the TileCal Read-Out Drivers

TileCal is the hadronic tile calorimeter of the ATLAS experiment at LHC/CERN. The main component of the TileCal back-end electronics is the Read-Out Driver (ROD). The ROD system is placed between the first and the second level trigger and it is the responsible for processing the data gathered by the detector. The principal devices of the RODs are the Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) mounted in the Processing Units (PUs) daughterboards. The architecture and functionality of the RODs are briefly explained. Pre-production validation of the ATLAS level-1 calorimeter trigger system

The Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger is a major part of the first stage of event selection for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. It is a digital, pipelined system with several stages of processing, largely based on FPGAs, which perform programmable algorithms in parallel with a fixed latency to process about 300 Gbyte/s of input data. The real-time output consists of counts of different types of trigger objects and energy sums. Prototypes of all module types have been undergoing intensive testing before final production during 2005.
